| 概要 | Purpose
To assess the appropriate tamponade substance for macular hole (MH) surgery. Subjects and methods We examined 74 eyes（69 cases） that underwent vitreous surgery for MH （stage 2,3 and 4 in Gass’s classification）at Kansai Medical University Hirakata Hospital between April 2009 and June 2013. Visual acuity was measured preoperatively and 1, 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Cases were divided into two groups, using SF6 gas (SF6 group) or air (air group) as tamponade substance randomly. Mean age and axial length were 65.4 years and 23.85 mm respectively in the SF6 group and 65.8 years and 23.94 mm respectively in the air group. In phakic eyes, cataract surgery was performed, peeling the internal limiting membrane over a three-disc diameter range and performing tamponade using either 20% SF6 or air. Patients could quit from the prone position once 50% or more of the tamponade substance had dissipated and MH closure was confirmed with optical coherence tomography. Postoperative visual acuity was compared according to stage of MH in both groups. We also investigated number of days in the prone position and postoperative complications. |
