概要 Purpose: To report the features of calcified and decalcified choroidal osteoma associated with choroidal neovascularization (CNV).
Materials/Patients: The medical charts of 4 eyes of 4 consecutive Japanese patients with choroidlal osteoma were reviewed. The patients were diagnosed as having choroidlal osteoma and CNV at Kansai Medical University, Hirakata Hospital from 2006 to 2013.
Methods: Retrospective study
Results and Conclusion: The mean age of the patients was 35 years (range, 13-59 years). There were 2 men and 2 women. All patients had unilateral choroidal osteoma. The mean thickness diameters of tumors using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) were 578 ± 306 μm (mean ± SD). The mean area of tumors using fundus photograph in initial and final visit were 52 ± 24 mm2 and 50 ± 25 mm2 (mean ± SD), respectively. In all patients, fundus photograph showed that decalcified region of tumors are wider than that observed at initial visit. 2 eyes of CNV were located in subfovea, and other CNV were located in juxtafoveal and extrafoveal area, respectively. Three of 4 eyes had received intravitreal injections of bevacizumab for the treatment of CNV. Visual acuity of all patients at final visit was worsened compared to initial visit. SD-OCT revealed the disappearing of photoreceptor inner and outer segment (IS/OS) line and retinal pigment epithelium in decalcified region of tumors. SD-OCT imaging showed a latticework, lamellar, granular and mound-like pattern in the tumors.
The decalcified choroidal osteoma associated with CNV resulted in poor visual acuity. SD-OCT imaging showed characteristic findings in choroidal osteoma.
